Kyrgyzstan: We support ‘One China’ policy on Taiwan issue

The threads between the USA and China were recently tensed with the visit of the Speaker of the House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi to Taiwan. A statement was also made from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan regarding the tension in the region. In the statement, it was stated that the “One China” policy was supported in the Taiwan issue.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan made a statement regarding the visit of the Speaker of the US House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi to Taiwan . In the statement, it was stated that Kyrgyzstan is closely following the developments on the issue, and it is hoped that the tension will be reduced as soon as possible and sustainable peace and stability will be achieved in order to prevent the situation from escalating in the Taiwan Strait. “The Kyrgyz Republic confirms the unwaveringness of its stance on the Taiwan issue and its support for the ‘One China’ policy outlined in all Kyrgyz- Chinese Documents,” The Statement Said.

PELOSI’S VISIT TO TAIWAN

Pelosi, who started her Asian visit from Singapore on July 1, arrived in Taipei, the capital of Taiwan, yesterday at 22:43 local time with the delegation accompanying her after Malaysia. Pelosi was welcomed at Songshan Airport by Taiwanese Foreign Minister Joseph Wu, President of the American Institute in Taipei, Sandra Oudkirk, and other officials. Today, Pelosi met with Taiwan Leader Tsai Ying Wen, and Ying presented Pelosi with the medal of honor called “Auspicious Cloud Order”. By noon, Pelosi had left Taiwan. On the other hand, Pelosi became the top US official to travel to Taiwan, last visited by then US House of Representatives Speaker Newt Gingrich in 1997.

While Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan was met with a great reaction by China, it was announced that the Chinese army would conduct military exercises in 6 regions determined between 4-7 August, using real bullets. In addition, China announced that as of today, it has stopped importing citrus fruits and two kinds of Fish From Taiwan.

TAIWAN CRISIS BETWEEN CHINA-USA

The Chinese administration defends that Taiwan is a part of China, while Taiwan states that it is an “independent country”. While the US is trying to strengthen its military alliances in the Asia-Pacific region, the Chinese administration interprets the activities of US ships in the region as a “signal of support for independence to the island” and a “provocation”.
