Bill Gates responds to Reddit users: “the metaverse is not a revolution, AI will change the world”

Also this year Bill Gates answered questions from Reddit users, participating in a new session of the ‘ Ask me Anything ‘ format. Bill Gates has spoken out on some of the hottest concepts in technology, revealing that he is quite skeptical of Web3 and the so-called metaverse. On the other hand, the founder of Microsoft has indicated artificial intelligence as the real revolution of our generation.

The Microsoft co-founder gave his take on tech trends in his annual “Ask Me Anything” session on Reddit, where he answered about 20 questions posed by Reddit users on a variety of disparate topics.

“Many years ago, I think around 2000, I heard you say something on TV like ‘People greatly overestimate what the internet will be in 5 years and greatly underestimate what it will be in 10 years.’ Are there any major technological changes in a similar phase now?” asked one of the users.

Gates replied: “AI is the biggest. I don’t think that Web3 (decentralization and cryptocurrencies ed) have had who knows what real impact or that the metaverse can revolutionize our lives. The technologies that most of all can change our lives are AI ».

Speaking specifically of generative AIs, i.e. those capable of creating original content independently, Bill Gates added that he was “extremely impressed by their rate of improvement”, adding that he believes they will have a huge impact. Responding to another user, Bill Gates confided that he hopes that this kind of AI can also help in the activities of his foundation, for example by speeding up medical research or providing new learning tools.
