Apple will soon allow you to uninstall the Wallet app from iPhones

If they wish, iOS and iPadOS users will soon be able to uninstall the Wallet app . The application is normally pre-installed on all Apple devices: the user finds it automatically the first time he starts his iPhone or iPad. At the moment the Wallet application, like many other services installed by default, cannot be removed – unless you proceed with the jailbreak of the phone.

Wallet allows you to use your smartphone for contactless payments. The user can register compatible credit cards and ATMs in minutes, then use the iPhone for real-world purchases. The application also allows you to keep store loyalty cards, as well as some passes for public transport, cinema and transport tickets and much more.

As already mentioned, today users cannot uninstall the application, but can, if anything, limit themselves to removing it from the home. The app will still remain in the phone library. That could change with iOS 16.1 and iPadOS 16.1. Uninstalling the application is likely to interfere with the operation of Apple Pay .

According to various rumors, Apple has made the decision to allow the elimination of the Wallet app to avoid being sanctioned by the European Union. A proceeding by the Commission against the American company concerns precisely NFC technology and the accusation of being actively limiting competing services to Apple Pay.
