Netflix will not give in to employee blackmail: “Do you offend the content? Go away ”. Elon Musk gives his endorsement

Netflix changes gears and with a new internal announcement makes it known – not too much between the lines – that it has lost patience against the grievances and protests of those employees who would like to condition the catalog of the service with their point of view.

Many cases, even in the very recent past: a special by Dave Chappelle judged to be transphobic had been attacked by several employees, who had formally asked Netflix to stop all collaboration with the comedian. That something was changing was in the air: already at the time Netflix had responded by shrugging . “Chappelle is not touched”. And so well, because the African-American comedian has little or nothing about transphobic.

This time the company is even clearer. The new version of its internal guidelines reads: “Not always everyone appreciates or shares what is in our catalog. Rather than censoring the voice of a specific artist, we let our viewers decide what is most appropriate for them ”. The guidelines continue: “As a company, we support the idea that Netflix offers a plurality of rumors and stories, even if some titles may go against our personal values.” And again: “Depending on your role, you may have to work with content that you perceive as offensive. If you think that supporting the diversity of our content may be difficult for you, maybe Netflix is not the right place for you “.

Elon Musk ‘s response is ready , only a few weeks ago he accused the streaming giant of being too “woke” , that is, too forcedly progressive, at the cost of being unpleasant or grotesque. “Excellent move by Netflix,” said the entrepreneur in these hours.

With its latest guidance, Netflix could certainly have displeased more than a few of its employees. In return, the company has gained a new fan.
