YouTube tests a new way to change the playback speed of videos
This new feature is in testing and will only be available for a limited time until August 13th.
YouTube is testing a new feature that allows Premium users to speed up video playback by simply long-pressing the player. This feature is only available for a limited time until August 13th. Users can activate it through the “Try new features” option in their Premium account menu.
Non-Premium users will of course still be able to adjust the playback speed using the gear icon in the player. In short, this is not a new feature, but a new way to use an existing feature. And, frankly, it is quite probable that, after this exclusive test for Premium members, YouTube will decide to extend the novelty to all the others as well.
Other ongoing tests include a feature called “Stable Volume,” which maintains the same volume level when playing videos, and “Screen Lock,” which prevents accidental taps that could interrupt or pause the video. These experimental features are subject to user rating and feedback and may not be implemented permanently. It all depends on the popularity of the YouTube Premium subscriber community .
