After launching in late April for US users, Google is bringing podcasts to YouTube Music to the rest of the world as well. Since last Thursday the podcasts have appeared in Brazil and Canada, with local language support. Other countries should be added very soon.
In the Home tab, users report the appearance of the new “Podcast” section, which branches into the sections Games, True Crime, Political Commentary and so on. The screen is then divided into the ‘Continue Listening’, ‘Recommended Episodes’ and ‘Your Shows’ panel. There is also an ‘Explore’ section, which allows you to discover new content.
The player has several controls suited to podcast playback, including a 30-second rewind and 30-second fast forward, as well as settings to select playback speed and a timer that allows you to schedule playback to stop.
Graphically, podcast content is very similar to albums and playlists: an image takes up most of the screen, dominating the list of episodes, their publication date and duration.
What’s interesting is that you can play podcasts in the background and save content to play them even without an internet connection for free, you don’t need a YouTube Premium subscription . Currently, YouTube Music does not yet support RSS feeds, and it only indexes podcasts that have also been uploaded to YouTube in video format .
