With about ten days later than expected, Xiaomi finally officially presented its new top of the range. The Xiaomi 13 and 13 Pro confirm the good things that had characterized this family of flagship phones in the past generations: they offer the best you can ask for from an Android phone, with a personalized UI and a clean look and a design that is as elegant as it is captivating.

The heart of both smartphones is obviously the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC , the best chipset of this season of Android phones (we wrote about its remarkable features here).

The new Xiaomi 13 Pro, in short

the display is a 6.73-inch 10-bit LTPO OLED with a maximum refresh rate of 120Hz. Resolution of 3200 x 1440 pixels and obviously compatible with all the most advanced standards: HDR10+, Dolby Vision and so on. The brightness is remarkable (and significantly improved), which thanks to the new Samsung E6 reaches a peak of 1900 nits when watching videos in HDR (and stops at 1,200 during other uses).

The RAM is now of the LPDDR5X type while the storage space uses the 3.5 GB/s UFS 4.0 standard. The 4,820 mAh battery supports 120W fast charging: Xiaomi promises lightning-fast charging times, i.e. from 0 to 100% in less than 20 minutes.

The photographic sector is excellent: the spearhead is the new sensor with a size of 1″ (!), the 50MP Sony IMX989 . It is the largest sensor ever mounted on a smartphone and we remember it: larger dimensions equal a greater amount of light and therefore, oversimplifying, better shots. It is combined with new Leica lenses and has an aperture of f/1.9, as well as Hyper OIS. We find, in tandem, two other cameras, all 50MP: optical 3.2 telephoto and 115° ultra wide. In short, a really great smartphone for those who don’t want compromises of any kind.

The shell is made of ceramic and, in general, Xiaomi has once again chosen a selection of premium materials to give its top of the range a touch of exclusivity and class. It starts at 4,999 yuan, i.e. around €681. Obviously in Italy it will be offered at a higher price.

The new Xiaomi 13, in a nutshell

The display is a 6.36-inch OLED with a maximum refresh rate of 120Hz and with support for HDR10+ and Dolby Vision. Even the peak brightness equals that of the Pro model. But obviously compromises have to be made: for example, the resolution drops to 2,400 x 1,080 pixels and there is no LTPO. And then,

Also in this case we find a triple-cam, with a 50 MegaPixel Sony IMX800, 3x telephoto lens of 10 MegaPixel f/2.0 with OIS and ultra wide 12 MegaPixel of 120° (f/2.2) but without autofocus.

The battery drops to 4,500 mAh and fast charging, from 67W, is a little slower: from 0 to 100% in 38 minutes, says the manufacturer. No ceramic: the rear shell is in glass and is available in black, grey, white, light green and light blue (the latter with eco-leather back).

It starts at 3,999 yuan for the 8/128GB version. About 544 euros, but obviously in Italy we must expect a slightly higher price.
