Words of the year ‘goblin mode’ and ‘oil lamp’

The results of the “Word of the Year” poll, organized by the Oxford Dictionary every year, have been announced. According to the survey, in which more than 340 thousand people voted, the word for 2022 was “Goblin mode”, which received 93 percent of the votes, meaning “don’t care”, “lazy”, “messy”, “smug”.

The words submitted to the survey are chosen by linguists. Merriam Webster dictionary, America’s oldest dictionary publisher, announced that the word of the year, which it determined based on the most searched words, is “gaslighting”, which is used for psychological pressure. This word refers to psychological manipulation that is done deliberately to distort one’s perception of reality, create confusion and weaken confidence and sense of self.
