Millions of Italians have been cut off from their email services. Since Sunday, it has not been possible to access the Libero and Virgilio clients, two e-mail services still widely used in Italy.

The company that manages both clients published an initial message of reassurance, explaining to users that they are aware of the problem and are working on a solution. Curiously, the first version of the message categorically excluded that the disservices could depend on a cyber attack. Now this last part of the message, the one that excluded the hackers’ hand, has been inexplicably removed.

The company that manages the services, ItaliaOnLine, now owned by the group of Egyptian tycoon Samih Sawiris and Orascom, has announced that it has identified the problem and is close to a solution. The fact is that the problem persists and that as far as we know – that is, very little – the solution could still take many days. Meanwhile, millions of Italians still cannot access their emails.
