U.S. jobless claims fall short of expectations

Applications for unemployment benefits in the USA came in at 217,000, below expectations.

Unemployment claims in the US came in at 217 thousand in the week ending October 22, below expectations.


Economists had predicted that applications for unemployment benefits would amount to 220​.

According to the seasonally adjusted data announced by the US Department of Labor, 214,000 applications for unemployment benefits were filed in the previous week.

The four-week average of US jobless claims, which is considered a better indicator of US labor market trends, rose to 219,000.​

The total number of people benefiting from unemployment benefits in the USA increased to 1.438 million in the week ending October 15.
