Type 2 diabetes: intermittent fasting as a remedy

Type 2 diabetes: intermittent fasting as a remedy.
In China, a recent study saw 90% of participants decrease their medication intake. 55% of these people experienced complete remission.
A dietary choice based on intermittent fasting can promote complete remission of type 2 diabetes. The novelty comes out of a study by Chinese scientists. Leading the team Dongbo Liu, which involved 36 patients with type 2 diabetes. These were subjected to intermittent fasting diets for three months.
From the survey analysis, 90% of the participants decreased their intake of specific drugs and, among these, 55% had remission from the disease. Intermittent fasting diets feature food in specific time windows. If you don’t eat for a certain number of hours a day or you reduce the number of meals a week, you favor the consumption of fat. Then the risk of diabetes and heart disease is reduced.
Type 2 diabetes is not necessarily a lifelong disease. Remission is possible if patients are able to lose weight and get enough exercise . Our work shows that intermittent fasting can lead to remission of type 2 diabetes. Diabetes medications are quite expensive and represent a barrier for many patients who are trying to effectively manage the disease. Intermittent fasting would reduce the economic burden of the disease by 77%.
