Turkey message from Biden: “One of the worst earthquakes in the region in over 100 years”

U.S. President Joe Biden, emphasizing the intensity of the 7.7 and 7.6 magnitude earthquakes centered in Kahramanmaraş, which affected Turkey and Syria, said, “This is one of the worst earthquakes in the region for over 100 years.”

US President Joe Biden made statements during his visit to the state of Wisconsin. Biden started his speech by referring to the 7.7 and 7.6 magnitude earthquakes that occurred in Turkey and also hit Syria.

“On behalf of the American people, I want to take a moment,” Biden said. Our thoughts and prayers are with the peoples of Turkey and Syria. You know, the loss of life is increasing day by day. One of the worst earthquakes in that area in over 100 years. We mourn the loss of life and offer our deepest condolences.”

Biden noted that his thoughts are with those who survived this tragedy.

Reminding that he called President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on the day of the earthquake, Biden said, “As I said when I called President Erdoğan, the USA offered its full support, including search and rescue teams, to our NATO ally. “We are helping Turkey’s teams in the field, including the US Agency for International Development and our armed forces in Europe.”

Biden said: “The United States supports humanitarian partners in Syria. We intervene with equipment and assistance. We have been conducting search and rescue missions from day one. The USA is a leading donor. It is the leading donor in all regions of Syria in saving human lives, no matter who controls the region. We are determined in our commitment to support the peoples of Turkey and Syria in this time of need.”
