Tumors: there is an increase in Italy

The Aiomi (Italian Association of Medical Oncology) census records an increase in tumors in Italy. Diagnoses, in fact, increased from 376,600 to 390,700 in 2020, with breast cancer being the most common. Experts warn that urgent action is needed. 

 

In 2022, around 390,700 new cancer diagnoses will be made in Italy, 205,000 in men and 185,000 in women. A clear increase compared to two years ago, when there were 376,600 cases, while today there are 14,100 more. An alarming figure is that contained in the 12th census The numbers of cancer cases in Italy in 2022 , presented by the Italian Society of Medical Oncology Aiomin to the Ministry of Health with the intervention of Minister Orazio Schillaci. 

The most frequent tumors in Italy are those of the breast, lung, prostate and colon. Breast cancer is the most common form of cancer in the Italian female population. In 2019, there were an estimated number of new cases of around 51,000, with a mortality rate of 14%.

Lung tumors are the second cause of cancer death in Italy. In 2019, there were an estimated 38,000 new cases and a death rate of 27%. Most of these cases were caused by tobacco smoking. Prostate cancers are the third most common form of cancer among Italian men. In 2019, there were an estimated 33,000 new cases and a fatality rate of 5%.

 

Colon cancers are the fourth most common among the Italian population. In 2019, there were an estimated 30,000 new cases and a death rate of 9%.

To prevent the most common cancers in Italy it is important to follow a healthy and balanced diet , maintain a healthy body weight, exercise regularly , avoid tobacco smoke, limit alcohol intake and check your health regularly.
