The UK to host the first international AI summit

The UK is the third largest global leader in AI, with sales of over €3.7bn. The summit was announced by Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.
The United Kingdom will organize the first global AI security summit in the fall of 2023. British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak announced the news ahead of his meeting with US President Joe Biden.
Following concerns raised by leading AI experts globally, the urgency to regulate this technology is mounting. In particular, the European Union is spearheading this process with its pioneering legislative proposal, the AI Act , which still needs to be approved by the European Council to enter into force. Meanwhile, the UK leverages its prominent role as the world’s third-largest leader in AI, after the US and China, with over 50,000 people employed and an annual turnover of more than €3.7 billion . The aim is to establish a global partnership that creates rules that are beneficial to the British economy.
The UK government’s statement on the summit focuses on the business opportunities offered by new technologies and collaboration with leading US companies. Recently, both OpenAI and Anthropic have opened new offices in London, while OpenAI has chosen the British company Faculty as its technical integration partner.
The UK acted quickly to influence the development of new international rules required by experts, business leaders and politicians to reduce the risks associated with artificial intelligence. In May, Sunak met with the CEOs of OpenAI, DeepMind and Anthropic, while Secretary of State for Science and Innovation, Michelle Donelan met with other industry leaders.
