Overwatch 2: DDoS attack prevents users from playing, Day 1 ruined by hackers

The launch of the expected Overwatch sequel was compromised by a DDoS attack . Overwatch 2 was released on Tuesday , but thousands of players didn’t have a chance to try the new game. “Connection to server failed … try again”, reads the error message that appeared on the screen of most users.

Incidents like this can happen: Overwatch 2 would certainly not be the first highly anticipated PVP game by the public to stumble on Day1. Incidents of this type have also happened to other games: Fall Guys, for example, had to suspend matchmaking for several hours, after switching to the free-to-play formula, opening the doors for the first time to users who play. from Xbox.

But apparently, the error messages of Overwatch 2 would not depend (at least exclusively) on the negligence of Blizzard, but would be the result of an action of sabotage conducted against the publisher. “Our servers have suffered a mass DDoS attack ,” reads a Blizzard statement. “This is causing several disconnection problems, our teams are working to mitigate and fix the problem.”

The problem – however – did not affect all users. Some players still managed to try Overwatch 2 at launch, as the Twitch broadcasts of many content creators testify. Regardless of the cyber attack, we know for sure that there are some glitches that would not depend on hackers : for example some players complain that they no longer find some unlocked cosmetics in their inventory, while some users are no longer able to access the game after joining their PC and console accounts.
