The exports of the ferrous and non-ferrous metals sector increased by 19 percent.

The exports of the ferrous and non-ferrous metals sector reached 13.2 billion dollars in the first 11 months of 2022, an increase of 19 percent compared to the same period of the previous year. In the January-November period of 2022, the highest export was to Germany with 1.8 billion dollars.

Turkey’s 11-month export data for 2022 has been announced. Accordingly, Turkey’s exports amounted to 231 billion dollars. The contribution of 13.2 billion dollars to total exports came from the iron and non-ferrous metals sector. With an export of 13,2 billion dollars, the sector, which received a 5 percent share from the general exports, became the sixth largest exporter among the industrial sectors. The exports of the ferrous and non-ferrous metals sector in November 2022 amounted to 1.13 billion dollars.

Most exports to Germany

Stating that the export amount of the sector increased by 3.45 percent to 2.9 billion tons in the January-November period of 2022, Istanbul Ferrous and Non-Ferrous Metals Exporters’ Association (IDDMIB) Chairman of the Board Çetin Tecdelioğlu said: The unit export price increased by 15 percent compared to the January-November 2021 period, reaching $4.63 per kilogram. In the January-November period of 2022, our most exports were to Germany with 1.8 billion dollars. 990 million dollars were exported to Italy in the second place and 870 million dollars were exported to the USA, which is in the third place.  

“We are the leading country of the world” 

Çetin Tecdelioğlu, who also conveyed the export figures of complementary sectors in November, said, “In the period of November 2022, the Aluminum product group ranked first in terms of value with 459 million dollars in the exports of the complementary sector of Ferrous and Non-Ferrous Metals. The aluminum sector was followed by Iron and Steel Products with 234 million dollars, Metals with 224 million dollars and Copper product groups with 172 million dollars. We will continue our efforts to raise our exports to even better levels in all our complementary sectors.”

Stating that the number of members of the Istanbul Ferrous and Non-Ferrous Metals Exporters’ Association has reached 7 thousand 666 from 7 thousand 430 compared to the previous month, Çetin Tecdelioğlu said, “We rank first in the world and in Europe in the export of copper wires in the copper industry product group. While we are in the second place in the export of other copper alloys in the world, we are in the first place in exports to Europe”.
