The creators of South Park have founded a startup that develops deepfake technologies for cinema

The creators of South Park have founded a startup specializing in the creation of deep fake technologies for entertainment (especially for parody content). It’s called Deep Voodoo and it recently went to the bank, raising over 20 million dollars in investments from various American funds.

Deep Voodoo has already proven its capabilities. In early 2020 Matt Stone and Trey Parker had announced the production of a parody film that would star Donald Trump in the role of himself. No participation (nor blessing) from the tycon: Stone and Parker had used deep fake technology to use his face without his consent. The voice was then provided by voice actor and impersonator Peter Serafinowicz. Due to the Covid-19 of the actual film, nothing came of it, while in October of that year a first 14-minute short called ‘Sassy Justice’ was released and became extremely viral.

Sassy Justice is a taste of the possibilities that deep fake technology can make available to the entertainment industry. Not only the parodies, just think of the rejuvenation of the actors seen in the latest products of the Star Wars universe.

No wonder Deep Voodoo has garnered investor interest. The round of new funding was led by the Connect Ventures fund and saw the participation of CAA and New Enterprise Associates. The funds will be used to accelerate the development of new technologies, which will then be sold to film production companies.
