The eyes and ears of the world have been in the news from The Earthquake zone for days..

After the double earthquake, dozens of countries rushed to Turkey’s aid. While the search and rescue team of Greece, where relations are tense, was one of the first convoys to reach Turkey, a series of aid steps came from the neighbor.

While the Greek government’s sending 80 tons of medical and first aid equipment by plane, apart from the search and rescue team, softened the strong winds blowing between the two countries, the aid campaign launched by many Greek NGOs brought the two countries closer to each other.

Expert teams rescued dozens of people trapped under the rubble. One of those teams was the Greek search and rescue unit EMAK.

The Greek team, who completed their duties in the past days and returned to their hometown, told the country’s press about their experiences.

Stating that they were grouped to work in two different fields, Koletsa said, “I suddenly saw a man, a Turk in front of me, and he took me to see a little girl, crying. I went and crawled to where the wreckage was and shouted: We must get the boy out immediately,’ he said.

Koletsa said, ‘What can I tell you about my joy when we succeeded… an indescribable joy’ and continued as follows;

‘I remember when I saw the boy’s face in the wreckage. There was pain, but it also included joy when someone showed up to help him. He spoke to us in Turkish and we encouraged him as much as we could. There was no way we could leave the boy there. I think this kid understood that we were there and we’re going to make it.’

Underlining that the Turkish people support them, Koletsa said, “I could tell that they knew us from their body language, back patting and hugging.”

Emphasizing that the people of the region show their gratitude at every opportunity, Koletsa said, “They brought us water and cookies.”

Head of the Medical Team, Sokratis Dukas, said, “Wherever we go, everyone embraced us when we said we were Greek.”

Dukas said that as soon as they arrived in Hatay, they tried to contact the Turkish authorities and a small boy came to them and offered him a packet of biscuits.

Doctor Dukas, whose words got stuck in his throat as he spoke, had a hard time holding back his tears.
