PUBG, one of the most popular games in the world, became the highest-grossing mobile game with 146 million dollars in revenue last month.
According to the news of technology news site The Verge, PUBG, one of the most played games in the world with more than 100 million monthly players, became the top-grossing mobile game with more than 146 million dollars in revenue last month.
The revenues of the game do not only consist of the membership package and game content purchased by the players. Game For Peace, the Chinese version of PUBG, also played an important role in the increase in revenue items. PUBG earned a total revenue of $146 million last month, while $70 million of this revenue came from Game For Peace, the Chinese version of the game.
Country adaptation did not affect revenues
Game For Peace, the version of PUBG adapted for China, has ‘nationalist’ features and contains less blood. For example, the scene where the player eliminated from the game in PUBG dies in the blood pool is not included in the Chinese version of the game.
Adaptation of games to China is due to the practices of the Chinese government and is considered an obstacle for game manufacturers. The Chinese government stopped issuing new licenses for video games in February and imposed various time limits on games.
For example, for Honor of Kings, one of the popular games in China, a play limit of up to 1 hour for children under the age of 12 and up to 2 hours for children between the ages of 12 and 18 was set.
Although analysts think that adapting games to the region will have a negative impact on revenues, PUBG’s gaining about half of its revenues from the Chinese version of the game, Game For Peace, may change the view towards adapted games.
