Sony has decided to offer 4 monthly freebies on PlayStation Plus Essential for the new month of 2023, but which for some fans will even become 5 thanks to an additional free game.

PlayStation Asia has in fact announced that Sword Art Online Alicization Lycoris (find it on Amazon ), the title inspired by the homonymous anime and manga, will be officially available for free to registered users in the Asian regions.

A tribute that was probably designed to celebrate the month of anime – also celebrated by Xbox with a new selection of weekend games – but which curiously will not be available to American and European users.

Unlike what happened with similar promotions, the Sword Art Online chapter will not be offered as a replacement for any game , but will simply be an additional gift that can be redeemed together with the previous offers of the month, which remain valid also for Italian users .

The title will therefore be available for download together with the previous 4 free titles starting next Tuesday 7 February , being offered regularly in its PS4 edition.

In fact, to date there is no native PS5 version of the title, but it can naturally be played without any problems or additional costs on next-gen consoles in backwards compatibility.

Considering the precedents relating to similar cases, the probability that Sony may choose to update the international PlayStation Plus catalogs with this further addition appears to be particularly remote: Italian fans should therefore be satisfied with “only” 4 monthly gifts for February 2023.

In any case, if further clarifications or a possible rethinking by the PlayStation house should arrive, we will keep you promptly updated on our pages with all the latest news.

Staying on the subject of second thoughts, we take this opportunity to remind all registered users of a very important farewell: Sony has announced that the PlayStation Plus Collection for PS5 users will soon be officially removed.

However, the games you’ve added to your library will continue to be available forever in your catalog, so we recommend that you redeem them before it’s too late.
