In shocking statements, he warned of a catastrophe that may befall the United States, saying: “It is likely that we will face another attack, as happened on September 11, thanks to this disastrous exit from Afghanistan last year.”

He also considered that what he described as “defeat” in reference to the shameful withdrawal, strengthened the Taliban’s grip on power and governance in this war-torn country, and made Americans less safe, according to Guo.

In addition, he warned of the dangers facing the country, which are more than they were a year ago, that is, before the American withdrew from Afghanistan, saying in a radio interview on Sunday with “Cats Roundtable”, “It is likely that we will be subjected to an attack like the one witnessed in New York 20 years ago, and it is also likely that We are under attack from Afghanistan.

Pompeo, who served as director of the Central Intelligence Agency before taking over the State Department in 2018, had previously considered that this American exit humiliated the country and encouraged Russian President Vladimir Putin to invade Ukraine.

These criticisms came in conjunction with a reminder by the former commander of the US Central Command, Kenneth McKenzie, yesterday evening that he opposed the withdrawal from Kabul, and advised Biden not to withdraw all US forces from there.

He also revealed that he made it clear to the White House that a complete withdrawal would surely lead to a swift Taliban takeover of power.

It is noteworthy that the US forces withdrew in late August of last year (2021) from Kabul, after 20 years of presence on Afghan soil.

This chaotic withdrawal was followed by a state of panic among thousands of Afghan citizens, especially those who worked with the coalition forces over the past years, and flocked in large numbers to Kabul airport, in order to flee, while the American planes were taking off.

It also made it easier for the Taliban to tighten its grip on power in the country.
