Cassie: the fastest robot in the world

Oregon State University’s Agility Robotics company built a bipedal robot , Cassie , which was able to break the 100-meter run record in the robot category in 24.73 seconds without tripping or falling all the way through. . Cassie’s appearance is not that of a human being, but the structure and movement refer to those of an ostrich .

The robot is no stranger to breaking records. Already in 2021 he had covered 5 km in just over 53 minutes and became the first bipedal robot to control the pace of an outdoor run thanks to machine learning . Cassie moves as if he is blind and relies only on what he was taught by having no sensors or cameras . The training lasted about a week, using different forms of learning at the same time.

Before Cassie there were other robots that could run. for example Mabel , of the University of Michigan, the first robot with the fastest knees in the world which ran at a speed of 3.6 meters per second, followed by Atlas , of Boston Dynamics, who, while running at only 1.5 meters per second, she was able to perform somersaults and jumps worthy of a gymnast.
