New missile test from North Korea

North Korea announced that the test of a new missile, which it described as a “strategic weapon” within the scope of a new technology development, was carried out successfully. It is known that the North Korean administration has conducted more than 30 missile tests at different ranges since the beginning of 2022.

North Korean news agency KCNA, in the news it published about the trial, announced that the “static launch test of the solid fuel engine” with a thrust of 140 tons from the Sohae Satellite Launch Site was successfully completed.

It was reported that “this important test”, which is the first of its kind in the country, provides “absolute guarantee” for the development of a new “strategic weapon” system.

While it was reported that North Korean leader Kim Jong-un followed the test from the spot, it was stated that the purpose of the test was to verify whether all technical parts of the missile engine are working within the scope of new technology development.

According to the news of South Korean news agency Yonhap, experts argued that with this test, North Korea aimed to develop a new intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) with high thrust solid fuel.

On the other hand, experts stated that solid-fuel missiles are simpler and can be launched faster than the liquid-based missiles that the North has tested before, and noted that the US and South Korean armies will have difficulty detecting these missiles.
