Robinhood has announced that it will launch an independent media outlet called Sherwood to report on business and finance . Robinhood’s media venture began in 2019 when it acquired MarketSnacks, which produces the popular daily newsletter Snacks . Robinhood Snacks offers subscribers a three-minute newsletter. Sherwood will also serve as a branding and customer acquisition tool based on Snacks.

Sherwood Media will exist as a subsidiary of Robinhood to ensure content remains independent. Joshua Topolsky , senior technology editor and media entrepreneur, will moderate the publication. Joshua Topolsky, founder and former Editor-in-Chief of The Verge and co-creator of parent company Vox Media, was also the former Chief Digital Content Officer of Bloomberg.

Topolsky will be responsible for overseeing the entire operation, including product development, editorial and sales staff hiring. Dozens of employees are expected to be hired this year, including reporters, editors, and social media creators.

The company said Sherwood Media will host Snacks and is expected to launch a suite of new editorial offerings throughout 2023, focusing on news updates and analytics, original reporting, social priority content and live events. New newsletter products focusing on specific business and finance-related industries may also be available in the future, Topolsky said.
