Netherlands revokes citizenship of terror perpetrator

Gökmen Tanış, the perpetrator of the tram attack that took place in the Netherlands in 2019, was stripped of his Dutch citizenship.

Gökmen Tanış, originally from Yozgat, opened fire on passengers on a tram in the city of Utrecht on March 18, 2019, and 4 people died in the incident. It was understood that Tanış carried out the attack in which 7 people were injured, in retaliation for the mosque attack that took place in Christchurch, New Zealand in the same year and killed 51 people. Tanış, who was sentenced to life imprisonment in March 2020, lost his Dutch passport in accordance with the law passed by the Dutch Senate in February this year, which facilitates the removal of citizenship for those who commit terrorist acts.
