Netflix: stop sharing passwords in Italy too, here’s how the rules change

We’re here now. After so many rumors, hesitations and empty threats, Netflix is preparing to impose its squeeze on password sharing. The date to mark is March 2023: even in Italy it will no longer be possible to share a Netflix account with people who do not belong to their own household.

More generally, with anyone who doesn’t live under our roof. Therefore, you can certainly split the expenses and use a single password with your roommates and you can certainly do it with your family (partner, parents, children and siblings), provided you all live in the same house. If you are an off-site student and you share an account with your parents, things start to get decidedly more problematic and you will have to pay a supplement to be able to continue using the same subscription as your parents. Although the figure has not yet been announced, in theory even paying the supplement should be possible to save something compared to subscribing to two separate subscriptions.

How Netflix changes from March 2023

Netflix has decided to end password sharing. The tests have finished and the new rules on how to use the service will take effect by the end of March 2023. In the future, it will no longer be possible to share a Netflix account for free with people outside your household, i.e. a group of people who live in the same location as the account holder.

Netflix has developed a system that can understand if an account is used by people outside the household. To figure this out, use a variety of factors, including your IP address , device ID , and account activity. In general, the system developed by Netflix is expected to be intelligent enough to distinguish abuse from legitimate use of the account. To illustrate, if you are forced to move for a short time (abroad or to another city) for work, while your girlfriend continues to use Netflix from home, the system will probably be able to recognize and tolerate this situation, without complications.

Will it still be possible to share Netflix with other people?

Starting in March, it will still be possible to share the season ticket with people outside your household , but you will have to pay an additional amount (which has not yet been specified). With the new system, all people who access the same subscription (upon payment of the supplement) will have to have an individual account and, in other words, it will no longer be possible to access using a single account (shared username + password).

Netflix will give users the option to transfer existing profiles to a new account. Transferring your profile does not result in the loss of data such as tips, viewing history, my list, saved games and settings.
