Netflix reveals exactly how to block users from sharing accounts

Last year, Netflix announced that it would turn off the password sharing feature for users who use the same Netflix account even though they do not live in the same house . The company carried out tests in some countries and caused confusion with this feature . Although the company has not yet activated this feature all over the world, it has clarified exactly how it will prevent users from sharing their accounts.

According to the information written on Netflix’s own website, the company uses information such as the IP address, device ID and account activity of the devices signed into the Netflix account to detect that the devices are used from the same home. In the Frequently Asked Questions section of Netflix’s help section,  there is a statement that people living in another house will “need to use their own account” to access the platform.

If a new device signing into the account is in a different location than shared, Netflix will ask for a temporary code that allows signing into that location for seven consecutive days. The company explains that those traveling with their primary device will have no problem using Netflix elsewhere. However, it will be necessary to connect to Wi-Fi from the primary location at least once every 31 days to ensure uninterrupted access to Netflix. “If you’re away from your home location for an extended period of time, your device may be blocked from watching Netflix. You can request a temporary access code to continue watching,” the company said. uses the phrase.

This does not affect the number of people who can simultaneously watch Netflix content with the same account.

Netflix rolled out another feature called “Profile Transfer” last year . This feature helps users migrate their personal Netflix profile from someone else’s account to a new account. In other words, a user can create a new Netflix account and migrate all their history, recommendations and settings.
