In the last year, there have been serious layoffs in the world of technology and they continue to happen. In fact, this has reached such a level that developers have even developed platforms where layoffs can be tracked moment by moment . Technology giant Microsoft has now been added to these layoffs, which have reached gigantic holdings from small-scale enterprises .

Initially, information that Microsoft would lay off about 10 thousand employees was shared, but there was no statement from the company. According to the shares made yesterday , Microsoft confirmed that it plans to lay off 10,000 of its employees by the end of March . These layoffs account for about 5 percent of Microsoft’s global workforce.

It is stated that Microsoft will make layoffs from different positions, including engineering. The company’s previous layoffs had focused on positions in consulting and customer and partner solutions. The layoffs will come just days after Microsoft implemented a new unlimited leave policy. Microsoft employees with unused leave entitlements will receive a one-time payment in April.

In terms of severance, Microsoft said US-based employees would receive above-market severance pay, but it was not specified what that meant. It was also shared that the dismissed employees will continue to receive health services for six months.

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella warned of the two-year challenge ahead for the tech industry in an interview with CNBC a few weeks ago . The news of layoffs came after these warnings. Nadella admitted that Microsoft is not immune to global changes and mentioned that technology companies need to be efficient.
