Following news of a possible integration of the powerful AI ChatGPT into Bing, it appears that Microsoft is now interested in buying a stake in Open AI, the startup that owns it. According to a report published by Semafor, the Redmond giant is ready to invest 10 billion dollars. Negotiations are still ongoing.

Microsoft sees ChatGPT – and the technology on which it is based – as an important resource to enhance its entire ecosystem of products and services. Not only the Bing search engine, but also Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

Again according to Semafor, the investment round also involves other companies, as well as Microsoft, and overall could lead to the collection of over 29 billion dollars. Some documents seen by the magazine mentioned the end of 2022 as the deadline for finalizing the preliminary agreements, but the negotiations would have dragged on longer than expected. The agreement could become official shortly, perhaps as early as the end of this month.

Microsoft would have put the condition of being able to benefit from 75% of OpenAI ‘s profits until the full repayment of the invested amount. Upon meeting this condition, Microsoft would acquire a 49% stake, while other investors would get another 49%. In the absence of an official announcement, this information should be taken with the utmost caution. Both OpenAI and Microsoft have chosen not to respond to requests for clarification from American journalists.
