Meta tests BeReal-like ‘Roll Call’ feature in Messenger
Just like in BeReal, Roll Call allows users to instantly share what they are doing with photos taken from the front and rear cameras.
BeReal, chosen as the iPhone application of the year in 2022 , is among the applications targeting Instagram’s user base. Meta, which tested the BeReal-like Roll Call feature in Instagram DM in October 2022, has now started testing it in Messenger.
Roll Call in Messenger was first noticed by Matt Navarra, who is known for discovering test version features in apps. “Roll Call” allows users to instantly share what they are doing with photos taken from the front and rear cameras, just like in BeReal. Users who share via the Roll Call feature can also see other Roll Call shares.
As you know, BeReal sends a notification to users, encouraging them to share content. There is no notification sent automatically in Roll Call. Instead, users can initiate a roll call thread in a group chat at any time. In other words, you can write “Show me the coffee of the day” in the group chat and have other users in the group share Roll Call photos containing coffee photos.
A countdown layer is used in the interface to encourage participation. Within the scope of the feature, you need to share a photo within 5 minutes. Your posts are deleted within 24 hours.
At the moment, it is not known when the roll call feature will be available to users or whether it will be available for use.
