Mercedes EQXX: the electric concept with 1,000 km of autonomy could become reality

Mercedes-Benz will produce a production version of the Vision EQXX concept , a futuristic electric sedan with a range of 1,000km. The car was presented at CES 2022 in Las Vegas and will be mass-produced in the future. Clearly the model intended for the public will be quite different from the concept.

“We created the EQXX to move the market bar with regard to autonomy and to explore new avenues for the future of the automotive industry,” Mercedes said in these hours. «It is a project designed for series production , many of the technologies tested on the EQXX will find a place in our production vehicles».

In short, the EQXX that had enchanted the audience at CES in Las Vegas was not an exercise in style for its own sake. Instead, Mercedes has used the concept as a test bed to develop technologies and features that will soon be implemented in public vehicles.

I wonder if Mercedes is referring precisely to autonomy. The EQXX has a 100 kWh battery and, despite its colossal weight of 1,750 kg, it can travel 1,000 km on a single charge .

The surprising fact is another: the batteries, in relation to their capacity, are very light. Just 495Kg per 100 kWh, they weigh much less than the batteries mounted on the Mercedes EQS, the electric flagship of the Stuttgart star.

It could be many years before we see a production version of the EQXX. Certainly not before 2025.
