Mazda intends to accelerate its plan to transition to electric . The automaker made the announcement by sharing the teaser of the concept of a new electric sports coupe – perhaps inspired by the famous Miata. Will we soon see an all-electric MX-5 ? Probably, but for the moment it is a simple Vision Study Model.

Mazda intends to strengthen the presence of fully electric vehicles within its line-up. Next year is the turn of the MX-30 R-EV, an all-electric version of its eponymous crossover. By 2024 Mazda will aim to increase investments in technology development, as well as supply chain optimization.

Between 2025 and 2027, Mazda’s plan will enter its second phase, increasing the number of in-house electrification components and technologies and introducing more battery-powered vehicles . Through a series of strategic partnerships, Mazda is aiming for full electrification of its line-up starting in 2030. At this stage, Mazda also intends to boost its investments in the development of technologies for semi-autonomous driving .

Mazda reiterated that it is considering investing in the production of proprietary batteries, adding that in the meantime it will confirm its partnership with Envision AESC.
