Instagram introduces the Quiet Mode: here’s how it works.

Instagram has presented the new Quiet Mode, a silent mode designed to increase productivity, by silencing each new notification for a user-set amount of time. You can choose to activate this mode automatically during specific hours of the day, for example in the evening when you go to bed.

Among other things, Instagram has also announced some important changes to recommended content: users will have more control over which content will be suggested by the social network.

Today we’re launching Quiet Mode on Instagram to help people focus and encourage people to set boundaries with their friends and followers. Once enabled, you won’t receive any notifications, your profile’s activity status will change to let people know you’re inactive, and we’ll automatically send an auto-reply when someone sends you a direct message

reads the press release published by Meta , the parent company of Instagram. The social network explained that the novelty was presented keeping in mind the needs of the younger ones, who are increasingly interested in maintaining a healthy balance between private and digital life.

Quiet Mode is already available to everyone in the US, UK, Ireland, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. “We hope to bring it to other countries soon,” explains Meta.

That’s not the only news. Users will be able to choose with greater freedom the contents that are suggested in the recommendations. It will be possible to flag multiple posts together as ‘uninteresting’. Instagram explained that once a piece of content is reported as not interesting, the social network will do everything possible to stop suggesting similar content. Your preference will be respected in all sections of the app, including the Reels, the suggestions in the search engine and the Explore section.

For a more detailed description of the innovations introduced by Instagram, we refer you to the official press release of the social network.
