Instagram will soon have a new look and yes, you guessed it: even more, importance will be given to Reels, the attempt of the Meta social network to chase the success of TikTok.

Instagram users will soon get a revamped navigation bar on their homepage. Starting next month, Instagram will remove the shopping tab from the main bar at the bottom of the screen and the button for creating a new post will move to the bottom.

The Reels tab, currently at the top of the navigation bar, will take the place of the Shop tab. The new navigation bar will roll out globally in February.

Instagram began testing a main feed without the shopping button in September, saying it wants to simplify the Instagram experience for users. However, according to a report by The Information, this test is part of a larger course change by Instagram, which is reducing its shopping functions.

However, the company has promised that shopping will still be an integral part of Instagram even without a link placed prominently on the homepage.

Instagram, like other platforms, has invested in shopping tools to try and get consumers to shop within the app. Currently, Instagram’s shopping tab features personalized product recommendations, which The Information says are set to disappear. Instagram didn’t elaborate on what will happen to the custom shopping page after next month’s revamp.
