Honor Young Merit Award

It has been learned that Onur Genç, CEO of Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria (BBVA), will be awarded the “professional merit award for globalizing the BBVA bank and being the first Turkish person to lead a global Spanish bank”.
At the award ceremony to be held in Madrid on December 1 by the Turkey-Spain Chamber of Industry and Commerce, Onur Genç, CEO of Spanish bank Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria (BBVA), said, “It is the first time that BBVA has globalized the bank and is the first to lead a Spanish bank on a global scale. It was learned that he would be given a “professional merit award” for being Turkish.

Onur Genç, who has been the CEO of Spanish BBVA since 2018, served as assistant general manager and deputy general manager at Garanti Bank between 2012 and 2017. BBVA transferred Genç as the CEO and Country Manager of BBVA Compass in the USA in 2017, and promoted him to the wheelhouse of the bank in Spain in 2018.
