Hogwarts Legacy: all the news from the second showcase

One of the most anticipated video games of 2023, Hogwarts Legacy , returns to show itself in a new, exclusive half-hour gameplay showcase in the company of Game Director Alan Tew, Systems Designer Mekenzy Toner, Community Manager Chandler Wood, and a guest special, Community Host Ben Snow.

The video focused on some so far smoky aspects, related to customization, mounts, dark arts and magical creatures.
With regard to mounts, there are several available to players: from the classic flying broom (which can be customized and upgraded in the appropriate shop in Hogsmeade) to various creatures. The broom will have a special “driving” system, also related to the flight distance from the ground. As for the mounts, however, we will have a wonderful hippogriff (which can not only fly but also be used as a sort of horse) but also the thestral, for those who will receive it as a bonus of the pre-order editions.

Traveling through the open world (just how “open” it really is remains to be seen, but it still seems quite vast) we noticed various settlements and was also shown the passage of the seasons, quite spectacular, as well as the day-night cycle.
In several points the game does not hide a certain derivation from The Witcher, which is also seen in the use of potions in combat: combat of which we were able to get a new taste thanks to the special Dark Arts combat arena located in the Forbidden Forest, where you will be able to access different challenges in which to unleash the most deadly (and forbidden) assortment available to a magician, including the so-called Unforgivable Curses.

We then move on to a decidedly quieter moment, showing us the Room of needs (fully customizable in a very well integrated diegetically way), or rather the place where we can distill potions, create objects, take care of plants and change clothing both aesthetically and owned, also through a special magic loom.

The nursery, then, was a real surprise: it is an open magical space similar to the one inside Newt Scamander’s suitcase, with grasslands, lakes and other types of land inside in which to breed magical creatures that we will save from poachers and that we will be able to look after in various ways, in exchange for friendship and natural resources.

The preview ends with a small, mysterious cutscene in which the protagonist… ends up inside a book. We still don’t know what it could indicate: a new special mission yet to be revealed?

Published by Warner Bros. Games under their Portkey Games imprint, Hogwarts Legacy is an immersive open world action RPG set in the wizarding world of the 1800s. Players begin in Year 5 and embark on a journey that will take them to explore new and familiar, discover magical animals, prepare potions, learn spells, develop their talents and make their character unique to become the wizard or witch of their dreams.
Hogwarts Legacy will be released on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC on February 10, 2023, with 72-hour early access starting on February 7, 2023. The previous generation console version will be slightly later than expected: in fact, it will be released on April 4, 2023 on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One and on July 25, 2023 on Nintendo Switch.
