Levi Dewey, 20, Living In The Willington Region Of England, was a fit football player with a healthy lifestyle.
Levi, who caught a flu-like illness just days before his 21st birthday, saw it as a simple cold, but his condition gradually worsened.
SHOCKED SEPTIC
Levi was admitted to the Royal Derby Hospital on December 7, 2022, when his Flu symptoms were added to his breathing difficulties. The young boy, whom doctors diagnosed with influenza B and pneumonia, went into septic shock after a while.
Septic shock, also known as sepsis, is a disease that occurs as a result of the mixing of bacteria that cause an infection in the body into the blood, and the immune system in the body displays a great defense response against these bacteria.
14 DAYS IN COMA
Levi , who suffered from multiple organ failure after Septic Shock, got worse, and doctors took the young man to life support.
The young man, who was on life support for 20 days, was in a coma for 14 days of this period.
BOTH LEGS HAVE BEEN CUT AT THE KNEE
Doctors told Levi’s family that the young boy had only a 30 percent chance of survival and that both of his legs would have to be amputated below the knee. After a difficult operation, the legs of the 21-year-old football player were amputated.
The devastated family consented to have their legs amputated to bring their son back to life. Lara Dewey, Levi’s 47-year-old mother, told local media: “Even though we were shocked when we were told that Levi might lose, we were prepared for this outcome to save his life. This of course will change everyone’s life, but we can get through this as a family. Levi always sees the glass half full. someone has been,” he said.
FAMILY STARTED A CAMPAIGN TO WALK AGAIN
After the surgery, Levi’s family, who wanted to be able to walk again, started a donation campaign on the GoFund me page to get a prosthesis.
Stating that the interest in Lara’s campaigns was more than they expected, she said, “We were hoping to collect 10 thousand pounds, but we got a much bigger return. Families, students, communities, even people we don’t know provided a lot of support. The money raised will be spent on Levi’s wheelchair and the supplies he needs. First of all, he will learn to walk again. We will find the best prostheses he needs . ”
