YouTube UX Director Nate Kochli announced an updated hosting design that will soon be available to all users on the official blog. For example, the interface will now be dominated by black and white colors.
There will also be background lighting (Ambient Mode), in which the screen space around the video is painted in the colors corresponding to the video. This functionality will be available on the web and mobile app when dark mode is enabled.
Speaking of dark theme. Google has updated it so that the black color is now really black. The update will affect the web, mobile and Smart TV.
In the player, the links have changed to buttons, the “Subscribe” button is now white or black (depending on the theme). Also, it became possible to zoom video and frame-by-frame rewinding of clips.
