Germany supports dialogue between Turkey and Greece

It is reported that Germany supports the dialogue between Turkey and Greece.

Government Spokesperson Steffen Hebestreit, in a statement in Berlin, reminded that his country wants to facilitate the dialogue between Turkey and Greece, therefore, senior officials of the three countries held a meeting in Brussels.

Hebestreit said, “Germany asked whether it could assist in such a meeting in its request on this matter. Both the Greek Prime Minister and the President of Turkey responded very positively to this.” said.

Hebestreit, who avoided giving information about the content of the meeting, emphasized that the contact between the three countries would continue.

After weeks of tension between Ankara and Athens, Presidential Spokesperson İbrahim Kalın, German Federal Chancellor’s Foreign and Security Policy Advisor Jens Plötner and Greek Prime Minister’s Diplomatic Office Director Anna-Maria Boura met in Brussels.

Visiting Athens in October, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz called for closer dialogue between NATO allies Turkey and Greece to resolve bilateral issues and reduce tensions in the Mediterranean.

Scholz said that the good neighborly relations between Ankara and Athens are vital not only for the two countries, but also for Europe and NATO.

Turkey, which has been a member of NATO for more than 70 years, expresses its discomfort with Greece’s repeated provocative actions and rhetoric in the region in recent months.
