Instagram changes interface and looks more and more like TikTok: for the moment it’s just a test
In these hours, the first tests of an important modification of the TiKTok interface have begun. Videos now take up the entire screen.
While waiting for the revolution that will overturn Facebook’s interface and algorithms, Instagram takes it in advance. In these hours, the first tests of a major user interface change have begun. Meta’s second social network will look a little more like TikTok .
The test will initially involve a limited number of users, as had already happened in the past with other experiments of this type. The layout of the social network will become more similar to that of the rival app: this means, first of all, that the contents will be played in full screen .
Meta had already shown a preview of the new layout over the past month. An Instagram spokesperson confirmed that videos will get a starring role in the future, even more so than they do now.
In short, the images will take a step back to make room for the so-called micro-entertainment, that is all those clips – from ballets to infotainment, passing through sketches and curiosities – which also constitute the pillar of TikTok’s contents.
Instagram calls this kind of short video ‘ Reels ‘. The Reels, as happens on TikTok, will be shown in full screen. There will be no more frames and the position of the notification bar will also change. Meta hopes the new feed will be more engaging, further capturing users’ attention.
