“Even Zuckerberg wants to bring Donald Trump back to Facebook and Instagram”
According to the Financial Times, after Twitter, Meta is also about to reinstate Donald Trump on Facebook, who will try to run again in the presidential elections in 2024.
According to the Financial Times, Meta will decide very soon what to do with Donald Trump. The former President of the United States had been suspended for life from almost every social platform after the events of January 6, 2021, when a crowd of his supporters stormed the seat of the United States Congress, threatening – among other things – to hang former Vice President Mike Pence.
By January 7, Meta will decide whether to reinstate Donald Trump on Facebook and Instagram. The former President could thus go back to posting his content, reaching an audience of millions of users.
In November 2022 Twitter reinstated Donald Trump’s account after social media users had decided to do so by voting in a survey promoted by the new owner of the platform, Elon Musk. It’s been almost two months and Trump still hasn’t published a single post. Silence is easily explained, the former President has founded his own platform: Truth Social , which until a few months ago was also the only social network where you could read his utterances.
Truth Social isn’t doing too well and is basically a social network very similar to Twitter. Being the only social network where it is possible to read the content posted by Donald Trump is its only appeal, the loss of which would also lose any reason to exist. For this reason, even after his reinstatement on Twitter – by far his favorite social network – Donald Trump did not want to go back to posting anything. Doing so would be an own goal that would endanger the survival of his social network.
However, Trump could be forced to become active again on Twitter and – if Meta wants it – also on Facebook . The tycon has announced his candidacy for the 2024 presidential election, but before he does he will have to deal with the internal competition of Ron DeSantis’ Republican party, which is given as the favorite in more and more polls. For this reason, it is likely that Donald Trump will once again be active on social networks in an attempt to mobilize his supporters and regain support among Republican voters.
As for Meta’s return to social media, the last word would go to Nick Clegg , former Deputy Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and now Mark Zuckerberg’s right hand man. The decision will be made by January 7, in a very few days, but will only be communicated to the public towards the end of January.
