At the Istanbul Economic Summit, ‘green economy’ was discussed in the third Nordic Talks events, hosted by the Consulate General of Denmark in Istanbul, the Consulate General of Sweden in Istanbul, the Embassy of Finland in Ankara and the Embassy of Norway in Ankara.

Representatives of the Nordic countries shared their local and global knowledge on creating a green, fair and sustainable business model with the Turkish business world and the public, which has taken important steps in the transition to a green economy in recent years.

The third Nordic Talks events were held at the Istanbul Economic Summit, hosted by the Consulate General of Denmark in Istanbul, the Consulate General of Sweden in Istanbul, the Embassy of Finland in Ankara and the Embassy of Norway in Ankara.

Speaking at the panel “Nordic Talks: Sustainability in Business with a Scandinavian Approach” moderated by World Bank Senior Economist Sibel Kulaksız, Danish State of Green President Finn Mortensen said that Denmark has realized 1 percent of global carbon emissions and that its current carbon emissions will be percent by 2030. He said they aim to reduce 70 percent.

Stating that for a successful green transformation, countries and companies should bring together energy efficiency and renewable energy, Mortensen explained that one of the steps taken by Denmark in the transition to a green and sustainable economy is to create artificial energy islands.

“Sustainability is not the alternative way, it is the basis of the business world”

Cecilia Ekholm, Sustainability Ambassador of the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that sustainability has ceased to be an alternative way and has become the basis of the business world in Sweden and the Nordic countries. “While the need for green transformation and sustainability sets the world agenda, it creates challenges and opportunities in the global economy. Nina Vaskunlahti, Undersecretary of State for International Trade at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Finland, emphasized that green transformation should be based on international cooperation.

Vaskunlahti said, “As Scandinavian countries, we are working together to achieve our vision of being the most sustainable and integrated region in the world by 2030, and we support international cooperation on the relations between climate action and gender equality.” made its assessment.

Floating solar plants could become widespread in Europe

Among the speakers of the panel, Norwegian floating solar panel manufacturer Ocean Sun AS Founder and CEO Borge Bjorneklett stated that floating solar power plants are a promising new technology.

Noting that this technology enables the production of affordable energy in hydroelectric power plants and on the coasts, Bjorneklett said, “In the near future, these systems will replace fossil energy sources in the sunny regions of Europe.” said.
