International Space Station: what will happen to it?
The life of the ISS has been extended until 2030. What will then be its fate?
In recent months there has been a lot of talk about the fate of the International Space Station as Roscosmos , the Russian space agency, has repeatedly declared its intention to exit the collaboration.
Despite everything, the United States has stated that it wants to continue with the project at least until 2030. NASA is interested in facilitating access to space for individuals, so as to be able to direct its resources to more ambitious goals such as the conquest of Mars and of the Moon .
At the end of its life, the ISS will probably be made to disintegrate in the atmosphere following the maneuvers already programmed, which are part of the exercises of the astronauts , as they will have to resort to it even in the event of a serious accident. This type of operation will be performed over the Pacific Ocean , the least populated area on the planet.
In any case, the life of the ISS, which should have ended its activities in 2024 , will continue until 2030, also thanks to the good condition of the structure. The International Space Station thus enters its third decade of activity and, according to what we read in the NASA document, it will be the most productive decade of all.
