The institution announced a new mandatory course for all enrollees and academic staff on the climate crisis
Starting from the 2024-2025 academic year, all students enrolled at the University of Barcelona , regardless of the chosen faculty, will be obliged to take a course on the ecological crisis . This is the first case in which an institution of this size, which attracts over 60,000 students every year, imposes a training course on climate change and the environmental emergency .
All the students led in particular by End Fossil , an environmentalist collective, protested and occupied the University spaces to ask for greater sensitivity on the subject and to draw attention to the importance of abandoning fossil energy sources .
Thus, the institute succumbed to the pressure of the activists by launching, at their request, the Crisis ecosocial course , with the aim of raising awareness of environmental education. This course will also be extended to teaching staff who will follow a training course on the ecological crisis over the next four years.
