Domino’s Pizza is building a fleet of electric food delivery vehicles

It announced that the service will start this month, in November, with 100 vehicles. The entire fleet will consist of the Chevy Bolt EV, a battery-electric small-class car model manufactured by Chevrolet since 2016.  

Domino’s Pizza is building a fleet of electric food delivery vehicles. The company has announced that it will deploy 855 electric meal delivery vehicles branded as Chevy Bolt EVs across the USIt announced that the service will start this month, in November, with 100 vehicles. The entire fleet will consist of the Chevy Bolt EV, a battery-electric small-class car model manufactured by Chevrolet since 2016.

The company has 6,135 restaurants across the United States. Domino’s officials noted that electric food delivery vehicles will not serve in all restaurants. It has been stated that the vehicles can travel approximately 420 kilometers with a single battery. The company’s website has a map showing where and when electric food delivery vehicles are active. But in places like California where electric vehicles are used heavily, this service is still not active. 

In April 2021, the company collaborated with Nuro, which develops autonomous car technologies. Announcing that it will begin a trial of delivering pizza with Nuro, an autonomous delivery robot. The service was said to have started in the US state of Houston. It has been announced that the delivery of the R2, the first driverless vehicle approved by the US Department of Transportation, will be made at certain time intervals. 

It was said that when delivery will be made with Nuro’s autonomous delivery robot, a password is sent to customers as an SMS. When the delivery robot reaches the point where the customer is, it is stated that the cargo section is opened by entering the password sent to the screen on the robot. Domino’s Pizza started delivering pizza orders to robots in 2017. Performed the first tests with Starship Technologies in Hamburg, Germany.
