The coming winter in Europe will be quite mild, even if at the beginning it will be characterized by some cold spells. This is what is indicated by the latest forecasts elaborated by the Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S) for the period December 2022-February 2023.
Large-scale atmospheric circulation patterns indicate a disruption of the normal westerly atmospheric flow, making way for easterly and northerly winds that usually bring colder, drier air masses over the continent. The phenomenon will concern, in particular, the first part of winter. A probable return of the westerly flow characterized by milder, windier, and wetter conditions is expected in February.
