Russia freezes nuclear deal

Russia has announced that it has temporarily suspended control under the New Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (New Start), signed with the United States, which envisages mutual supervision of nuclear weapon developments.

In a written statement made by the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Russia’s deprivation of its right of inspection in the USA as a result of the inability of Russian officials to travel to the USA pursuant to the sanctions, was cited as the reason for the decision and Said , reported that it has temporarily withdrawn from its activities. The ‘New START’, which is the continuation of the START 1 and START 2 agreements signed between the USA and the Soviet Union in 1991 and between the USA and the Russian Federation in 1993, imposes restrictions on long-range nuclear weapons and missiles.
