Measures were not enough in Germany: Natural gas consumption increased

Despite all the austerity campaigns, gas consumption increased in Germany, which is one of the countries that had the most difficulties in gas supply after the war initiated by Russia against Ukraine.

Gas consumption by private households and smaller commercial customers amounted to 618 gigawatt hours in the 39th week of the year, according to figures from the Federal Network Agency, the regulator for gas consumption. It was stated that this figure was 564 gigawatt hours on average in the 2018-2021 period. Industry customers’ consumption amounted to 1,370 gigawatt hours last week, 2 percent above the level of previous years, according to the agency. The agency is concerned about gas shortages in the absence of savings.

ECONOMY WILL SHALL

The disruptions in the supply chain that started with the corona epidemic and then the effect of the Russia – Ukraine war began to strain the German economy. The forecasts for economic growth, which keep projections for the future, are also constantly changing. Finally, the Federal Ministry of Economy has updated its growth forecasts for the German Economy This Year. Growth in the economy was projected to be 1.4 percent, with a reduction of 0.8 percent. In fact, the government had predicted a growth of 4.1 percent for 2022 in the 2021 autumn projection. However, more difficult days await Germany next year. The Federal Government expects a 0.4 percent contraction in the economy in 2023. Inflation, which is predicted to be 6.1 percent in the spring, is expected to increase to 8 percent.
