Brussels: Christmas markets in the name of sustainability

The famous city becomes a location for Christmas events not to be missed. You can have fun while respecting the environment and renewing your attention to sustainability.
Brussels hosts the new edition of Plaisirs d’Hiver from late November to early January. It is none other than the annual market festival that enlivens the city center by making you experience a magical Christmas period. The event was revived by the gigantic Christmas tree on the Grand Place. To illuminate the square the light shows respect for the enhancement of cultural differences with special effects. Around the square, there are 250 wooden chalets to visit with craft gift ideas. There will also be stalls with tasty local and international Christmas specialties.
There are also many attractions for the little ones such as carousels, a Ferris wheel, and an ice rink. The ideal visit is in the evening with 160 festively lit streets. You can also try curling, one of the most popular winter sports. The list of things to see would be endless. Also worth mentioning is the Secret Garden at the Grand Hospice, a real secret garden in the city with respectable musical and theatrical events. There is also the Bois de la Cambre Christmas village, an enchanted forest for young and old.
Our Christmas markets are back in style, giving the city a magical atmosphere that makes it perfect for spending a few days off, before or during the holidays. We have paid much attention to sustainability, promoting fair trade , local craft activities and ensuring greater accessibility for the disabled; we have also set up a system for the recovery and daily redistribution of food surpluses to people in need. We also look at the reduction of energy consumption and environmental impact : the luminous decorations, for example, are made with low-consumption LEDs and all the street food is served with biodegradable and compostable crockery.
