Robot makers promised: We won’t make Terminators

Six companies that manufacture robots have pledged not to “weaponize their advanced products”. Boston Dynamics, Agility Robotics, ANYbotics, Clearpath Robotics, Open Robotics and Unitree companies reported that they have reached an agreement not to arm the general purpose robots they produce in a joint statement.

“We promise not to arm our general-purpose robots with advanced mobility or the software we develop, nor to encourage others to do so,” the joint text said. The companies, which announced that they will work to ensure that the sold robots are not later armed by the customer, want the technologies they produce to be kept away from the war industry.
